Worplesdon Golf Club to host charity golf day in support of HCUK! Heartburn Cancer UK are delighted to be named charity of the year for Worplesdon Golf Club and to be hosting this years Charity Golf Day on 13th September 2022. The golf day is to be held in memory of John Harridge, a member of the club, who died in May 2020. He was just 61 and had fought a gruelling four month battle with oesophageal cancer. Laid out in 1908 by J F Abercromby, Worplesdon is one of the classic Surrey heathland courses, and provides a fine test for the club golfer in very pretty surroundings, especially the stunning rhododendrons and Bridley Pond and plenty of heathland. Past captains include David Frame, who played in the 1961 Walker Cup match and was Captain in 1970; HRH The Prince of Wales who was Captain in 1933 and Arthur Balfour for the first two years from inception, Worplesdon is surely a golfers dream location and the perfect setting for a day of golfing, lunching and socialising – as well as all important fundraising! With coffee and bacon rolls on arrival, 18 holes of golf in a 4 balls Stableford format with best 2 scores on each hole to count, a full 3 course lunch, raffle and an auction, the day promises to be a fabulous event not to be missed!
