The National Oesophago-gastric Cancer Audit (NOGCA) have recently published their Public and Patient Report. The report covers the signs and symptoms, diagnosis, treatments of both high grade dysplasia (HGD) and oesophago-gastric cancers.  The report is based on the main NOGCA audit which HCUK shared on our website back in January 2023.  It is based on an audit of the care received by people with oesophago-gastric cancer in England and Wales between the 1st April 2019 - 31st March 2021, however, there are links to some statistics for Scotland and Northern Ireland on page 13.  There is also a list of OG cancer specialist surgical centres on page 12.

There were several charitable organisations involved in creating this report. HCUK sat on the patient panel along with Action Against Heartburn (AAH), GUTS UK and Oxfordshire Oesophageal and Stomach Organisation (OOSO). Some of the suggestions from the patient panel included that more information should be given on the causes of oesophageal and gastric cancers and that there should be more information on Barrett’s Oesophagus. We are delighted to see these points have been taken into consideration and are mentioned in the final draft.
