It's a hole in one for HCUK at Worplesdon! Since being announced as charity of the year for Worplesdon Golf Club in Surrey, we have been working hard to organise the club’s charity golf day. The event took place on Tuesday, 13th September and was a huge success. We had 17 teams ranging from Worplesdon members, members of other clubs, local businesses and even a couple of teams from The Lanesborough in London. A shotgun start followed breakfast in the clubhouse and afterwards a four-course lunch was enjoyed in the dining room. There was a chance for the club captains to make speeches along with Fiona, our Ops Manager, who gave some background on the charity and reminded us that we were there to both celebrate the life of and raise money in memory of John Harridge – a former Worplesdon member and captain who lost his life to oesophageal cancer in 2020 aged just 61. Niki Harridge, John’s wife, attended and was very touched by the support shown by everyone who attended the day. The funds raised from this event will mean HCUK will be able to continue to raise awareness and support the pursuit of early diagnosis of oesophageal cancer and Barrett’s oesophagus. There is still time to support this incredible event by taking part in the silent auction which closes at midnight on 30th September. The auction lots include a Golf GTI for a weekend, Sunday lunch at The Lanesborough, a signed shirt by the Oval Invincibles and even a luxury villa on the Algarve coast. Please take a look at the silent auction brochure HERE and if you would like to place a bid, email [email protected] with the lot number and your bid along with your name and telephone number.
