Heartburn Cancer UK are delighted to have been announced as winners of the Health and Care Award at the Place to be Proud Of awards ceremony in Basingstoke yesterday, sponsored by BMI Healthcare.

At the virtual award ceremony, organised by Destination Basingstoke, it was highlighted that as a small charity, based in the Basingstoke community, we work to raise awareness of the early symptoms of oesophageal cancer throughout the UK.  Our trustee and vice-chair, Beryl Huntingdon, was able to virtually collect the award on our behalf and convey her thanks to the community for their recognition of our work.  A tribute was made to Alistair Cheyne a trustee who lost his own battle with cancer earlier this year and who is sadly missed.

As Beryl explained in her acceptance speech, we offer support to sufferers of heartburn, those with Barrett’s oesophagus and oesophageal cancer locally in Basingstoke but also throughout the UK and welcome anyone who would like support or advice getting in touch.
