HCUK's Caring for Patients with Heartburn and Barrett's Oesophagus Event

Our sincere thanks go to our Clinical Trustee, Professor Rebecca Fitzgerald, for hosting the annual Caring for Patients with Heartburn and Barrett's oesophagus event which took place last Thursday evening, the 21st September.

Thanks must also go to experts Rob O'Neil, Andreas Hadjinicolaou, Adam Duckworth and Claire Lamb who presented over the 2 hours. The following topics were covered;

What is Barrett's and how do we monitor it?
Do we still need a Surgeon for Barrett's?
What does a Pathologist look for in biopsys and cytosponge samples?
Dietary tips to help reduce symptoms?

We had over 100 sign-ups, with around 80 joining on the night. The feedback we have received has been very positive with many asking for the recording to be available to be able to watch it again.

LINACRE Trial

The Oxford Clinical Trials Unit are applying for funding for an exciting new clinical trial for patients with Barrett’s Oesophagus. Recruited patients will be randomly selected to either continue with life long medication or have a device, called a LINX, fitted at the base of the oesophagus to reduce the symptoms associated with Barrett's.
