Demanding Hope with a Second Mobile Diagnostic Unit Heartburn Cancer UK fundraisers and charity partners have been raising money for us to add a second mobile diagnostic unit and HCUK are delighted to announce the purchase of the second unit. Our mobile units are commissioned with early diagnosis as the aim. The units are deployed to areas around the country to perform the simple capsule sponge test. This simple test can be carried out with no sedation in under 10 minutes and is designed to speed the diagnosis of Barrett’s oesophagus, a pre-cursor to cancer, and oesophageal cancer so treatments can be delivered sooner, and patient outcomes improved. Our unit will begin its journey officially during February’s oesophageal cancer awareness month at The Lanesborough hotel in London as part of a Demanding Hope campaign. Since the charity was launched 20 years ago, not enough has changed and so HCUK is Demanding Hope for patients in the way of easier, quicker, and earlier diagnosis. Fiona, our operations manager was recently interviewed by BBC Radio Berkshire (link below) and That’s TV Hampshire (YouTube video below) to tell their audiences all about it.bbcradioberksaug23.mp3 Your browser does not support the audio element.
