Cancellation of her planned event wasn't going to stop Emma lacing up her trainers... Emma and her friends had been planning on running The Hampton Court Palace Half Marathon on the 21st March 2021 but current restrictions meant the race had to be postponed. Not wanting to let their hard work in training go to waste Billy, Charlie, Emma and Issy planned their own route, which took in the striking Hampton Court Palace, The River Thames, Bushy Park and the surrounding areas. The team of friends were running in memory of Emma's father John, who died in May 2020, he was just 61 and had fought a gruelling four month battle with oesophageal cancer. When Emma found out about our Mobile Diagnostic Unit and the associated fundraising appeal she became passionate about raising funds for Heartburn Cancer UK. This project will make an innovative new test, The Cytosponge available in primary care in a bid to improve diagnosis of oesophageal cancer and the associated condition Barrett's oesophagus. This screening tool will significantly improve outcomes and save lives. Emma and her epic fundraisers have raised over £20,000. Just AMAZING! Thank you so very much. If Emma's story has inspired you to put on your trainers or jump on your bike and undertake a challenge on behalf of HCUK then perhaps browse our Events page to see if anything takes your fancy? Fantastic projects like the mobile unit just wouldn't be possible without your support and donations. Manage Cookie Preferences
